Overview

2011 Swan Lake

Colorado Ballet’s season opens with one of the greatest classical ballets of all time, Swan Lake. Opening Oct. 7, and running through Oct. 23, 2011, at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, Colorado Ballet’s version of Swan Lake will feature choreography after Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, with original choreography by two of today’s premiere ballet masters, Amanda McKerrow and John Gardner, former principal dancers with American Ballet Theatre, and Sandra Brown, ballet mistress for Colorado Ballet. Boggs and Lorita Travaglia, ballet mistress for Colorado Ballet, also assisted in the staging of the production. The new choreography was first set on Colorado Ballet to sold-out audiences in October 2008. The grand work will be performed to Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s intense and vivid original score, performed live by the Colorado Ballet Orchestra. Presented in four acts, Swan Lake depicts the immortal themes of love unrequited and love redeemed throughout.
