Mens Ballet Level 5

Description

(Ages 11+ by placement) Training intensifies as students mature and gain more knowledge of classical ballet vocabulary. Classes focus on pointe work, pirouettes, use of the head and upper body, fluidity of port de bras, clarity of Allegro, musicality and maturing artistry.

In addition to Ballet and Pointe, Level 5 students’ curriculum includes Stretch and Condition and Intermediate Character/Modern, in which they will study one semester of Character and one semester of Modern.

Character Dance is the stylized representation of a traditional folk or national dance, mostly from European countries, and uses movements and music which have been adapted for the theater. Examples of Character Dance are found in full length classical ballets such as Swan Lake, Coppelia, and Sleeping Beauty. Level 5 Character will strengthen the fundamentals of this style with emphasis on positions and musicality. Students will be introduced to dances such as Czardas and Mazurka.

Level 5 Modern will build on fundamentals of Limon, Horton and Graham techniques as students continue to explore composition and improvisation. All Modern classes culminate with a showcase performance in May.

Students in this level are eligible to participate in Colorado Ballet Academy’s Youth America Grand Prix and Denver Ballet Guild programs.
